PÖYRY AWARDED RUBBER TUBE DAM ASSIGNMENT IN ALGERIA
Pöyry has been awarded a contract for engineering, delivery, erection
and commissioning of a rubber tube dam project in Algeria. The
project covers derivation of the Sebgag River in the province of
Laghouat and is built for the National Irrigation and Drainage
Authority (ONID). The value of the assignment is about EUR 1 million.
The rubber dam "Khneg Sidi Brahim" is the first one in the country.
It will have a total length of 50 meters with a total height of
approximately 6 meters and a storage capacity of up to 5 million
cubic meters. Its objective is to mobilise water resources allowing
irrigation of agricultural surfaces downstream of the dam. The rubber
dam is the first of its kind in Africa. Pöyry has installed more than
