2013-09-26 06:56:31 - NFL home teams coming off an overtime have been one of worst wagers since 2009 according to Vegas Experts
According to the sports handicapping website Vegas Experts, the effect of overtime games when a team’s next contest is at home has a marked effect when it comes to football betting.
The 2013 NFL season marks the 40th season for overtime games for the league, but since the start of the 2009 season, the website notes that teams playing at home in the subsequent game have been an especially bad team to wager on.
In 69 games during that time period, the home team has beaten the pointspread just 19 times, with 44 losses and six ties. The most recent game, and only one so far this season, came last Sunday. The Tennessee Titans, off an overtime game against the Houston
Texans, hosted the San Diego Chargers, and in that contest, Tennessee managed a tie against the Las Vegas betting line on a last-minute touchdown.
Vegas Experts also notes that since the beginning of the 2012 season, the betting trend has become even more prominent, with just six pointspread victories and three ties in 27 contests.
The pace of overtime games is expected to pick up in the weeks ahead, since the average number of contests per year since 2003 has been 17. Last year had 23, with the lowest during the past decade coming in 2006, when just 12 took place.
