Canada Day is Tuesday July 1, 2008, and will be filled with Canada Day parades, citizenship courts welcoming new Canadians, children's festivals, birthday cakes, singalongs, music events and celebrities, and grand fireworks. Canada Day celebrations are held throughout the province of Ontario, and many of our member properties have special events and activities with overnight vacation package getaways. Some of the most memorable Canada Day celebrations involve a trip to the "beach" where the cool freshwaters at Ontario beaches will be waiting. www.400eleven.com/ontario-beaches.html
Canada Day as we know it
has only been celebrated for 25 years, since 1982, when it replaced Dominion Day, which was established by statute in 1879.
The first July 1 holiday to celebrate the "formation of the union of the British North America provinces" took place in 1868 one year after confederation.
Today Canada Day Celebrations are held throughout the province of Ontario, and many of our member properties have special events and activates with overnight vacation package getaways. Some of the most memorable Canada Day celebrations involve a trip to the "beach" and Ontario beaches are plentiful throughout the province. Summer Getaways including Canada Day can be found at
