www.oncor.com - Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) has received funding from Oncor in the amount of $218,298 to support a pilot weatherization program targeting low-income residents in Dallas County. The Dallas County Weatherization Assistance Program offers help to residents who meet the income eligibility guidelines to decrease the cost of heating and cooling bills by
providing energy efficiency improvements to these households. As a part of the pilot program, DCHHS will conduct outreach to eligible customers, verify customer income eligibility, arrange for installations using agency staff or subcontractors, verify and inspect installations and report results to Oncor.
"Dallas County routinely conducts energy audits for low-income and elderly individuals and provides weatherization to these homes," said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS Director. "Our crews often find huge amounts of energy being wasted due to quick fix items such as insulation, window seals and more energy efficient appliances. These funds will allow DCHHS to reach even more persons to help offset the rising costs of heating and cooling their home by making them more energy efficient units," Thompson continued. The Oncor programs will cover the following eligible activities:
-- Attic insulation
-- Solar screens
-- Compact fluorescent lamps
-- ENERGY STAR(R) air conditioners
-- ENERGY STAR refrigerators
-- Duct efficiency improvement
-- Air infiltration control
-- Wall insulation
-- Water heater efficiency measures (for electric water heaters)
-- Water saving devices
"Oncor's partnership with Dallas County Health and Human Services to reach low-income residents with energy efficiency improvements is just one step Oncor is taking to help residents of our service area conserve," said Mike Stockard, Oncor director of energy efficiency programs. "Qualified low-income residents need our help with installing energy efficiency measures ahead of the summer heat. This partnership program with the DCHHS will ensure that the most vulnerable in Dallas County have the opportunity to take steps to make their homes more energy efficient." Through this program, Oncor estimates it will reduce peak electricity demand by 400 kilowatts and lower annual energy use by 1.5 7 million kilowatt hours. The average Texas household uses 17,000 kilowatt hours per year.
Oncor is a regulated electric distribution and transmission business that uses superior asset management skills to provide reliable electricity delivery to consumers. Oncor operates the largest distribution and transmission system in Texas, providing power to 3 million electric delivery points over more than 102,000 miles of distribution and 14,000 miles of transmission lines. While Oncor is a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings Corp., Oncor is a separate entity that reports to a separate board that is comprised of a majority of independent directors.
