Mushroom Networks, Inc. today announced country music legend Willie Nelson has deployed the PortaBella BBNA, the industry’s only wireless Broadband Bonding device that aggregates the bandwidth capacity of as many as five cellular-data cards into a single shared connection, on his state-of-the-art tour bus. This deployment marks a significant paradigm shift from how touring groups, as well as other mobile industries like public/private transportation, emergency services and maritime operators, are opting for less expensive, faster and more reliable cellular-based Internet connectivity as a replacement to satellite internet services.
“Touring groups, including ours, commonly made use of satellite or single router technology to connect online as we traveled from venue to venue, which can be expensive and at times extremely slow,” said
David Anderson, tour manager for Willie Nelson. “Due to Mushroom’s PortaBella cutting edge technology, we can now use our current laptop data cards and bond them together to create an incredibly fast connection for the entire bus. Because PortaBella allows us to utilize mobile broadband services from multiple carriers - we rarely lose connection even in rural areas or if one card goes down.”
Mushroom Network’s PortaBella is a small form factor networking device that provides extremely fast and cost effective Internet connectivity for mobile and portable deployments. The device combines the bandwidth capacity of as many as five USB based cellular data cards, providing increased access speeds both in the uplink and downlink directions and has a 10/100baseT Ethernet based LAN port to connect to a local network or multiple devices at the mobile location for bandwidth sharing.
“We have been supplying Internet connectivity to Willie Nelson while he tours across the country since 2002,” stated Bill Adams, owner of Internet Anywhere, an authorized reseller of Mushroom Networks’ Broadband Bonding solutions. “Reliable Internet has become a ‘must have’ while Willie is on the road and the PortaBella has provided that high-speed infallible service.”
Willie Nelson’s tour group will use the PortaBella as they travel on average 200 days per year performing their American country classics from coast to coast and raising awareness for some of the great social causes that Willie Nelson is involved with including Farm Aid. Utilizing the ultra-fast connection, the team has the ability to quickly upload music performances, update media rich website content, browse the web and communicate via VoIP.
“Sending music files just got easier; and I always have my email now,” stated Mr. Nelson.
“We are extremely pleased to work with an American music icon like Willie Nelson,” said Dr. Cahit Akin, co-founder and CEO of Mushroom Networks. “Our technology provides tour groups or any mobile team a viable option to move away from cumbersome satellite or microwave-based Internet access. Soon, I envision cellular-based Broadband Bonding providing high-speed Internet everywhere from tour buses to inside trains, convention centers and even powering cameras for homeland security applications.”
