Glenn Eller (USA) won the Gold Medal in the men's Double Trap shooting at the Beijing Olympics. Eller worked with Henry Hopking of The Brain Training Company to develop skills in managing his brain states during shooting. As well as winning the Gold Medal, Eller set a new Olympic Record.
'Henry Hopking's coaching is without doubt the most powerful mental training system in sport.'
-Glenn Eller, Olympic Gold Medallist, Beijing 2008
Hopking's training involves learning how to control your brainwave activity. He then teaches techniques unique to each client. They use these in a pre-shot routine, ensuring high levels of focus and concentration on demand. Importantly, they also learn how to control mental stress and nerves.
Hopking has studied the neurology of peak performers over the last decade - from shooters and golfers, to successful entrepreneurs. 'It is known that the brain works optimally at different speeds, or brainwaves, depending on the task we are performing. However, the challenge is to be able to learn to control this; for instance to control nerves
and stress at the critical time of performance. Which is why I developed the Brainwave Conditioning System', says Hopking. 'It gives the athlete very important knowledge about their mental strengths and weaknesses. It is a system of understanding your neurology, rather than psychology.'
During the training courses, Hopking uses a variety of techniques and technologies, including EEG brainwave measurements and Audio-Visual Stimulation (AVS), coaching the individual how to control their own unique brain states. The client learns how to access any mental states on demand - be that intense focus and concentration (high-alpha state) or a more relaxed theta state - all essential components to a powerful pre-shot routine.
'Henry Hopking's training taught me a powerful mental routine and gave me the knowledge to understand how to control my brain states. It is like having a reset button I can use whenever I need to boost my concentration or control nerves. Thank you Henry for helping me to win Gold!'

Notes to editors:
Audio Visual Stimulation - this is a process whereby the brain is subjected to a regular pulse of light and sound. The brain's electrical activity synchronises with this external stimulus and can then be altered to any desired state. This is known as the frequency following response or brainwave entrainment. AVS has been available for a number of years, but only for entertainment purposes. Hopking has developed a system, The Brain Buddy, to work on specific aspects of mental fitness enhancement.
