2013-10-18 07:16:55 - The Ohio State Buckeyes have had near-perfect success when playing their first game at home following a bye week
The Ohio State Buckeyes, currently one of the highest ranked teams in college football for 2013, are also one of the highest ranked teams when it comes to one aspect of sports handicapping following a bye week.
That assessment comes from the Vegas Experts website, which found that taking off a week during the season has been quite beneficial for the Buckeyes over nearly two decades when a home game comes after a bye.
Ohio State’s first game in two weeks will come on Saturday afternoon at Ohio Stadium against its Big Ten rival, the Iowa Hawkeyes, with OSU as much as an 18-point home favorite. The last time Urban Meyer’s team played, it won a 40-30 road decision over the Northwestern
Wildcats on October 5.
Since 1995, the Buckeyes has played at home following a bye week nine times. On all but one occasion, Ohio State has beaten the Las Vegas betting line. That one loss came in 1997, when the heavily favored (40.5 points) Buckeyes defeated the Bowling Green Falcons 44-13.
The most recent of this trend came two y ears ago when Ohio State was in the rare situation of being a home underdog against the Wisconsin Badgers, who were favored by 8.5 points. The Buckeyes won the game outright by a 33-29 score.
Vegas Experts found that Ohio State’s record on the road in similar circumstances is a mediocre 3-3, with all three losses coming during the 2003-05 seasons.
