www.wordandbrown.com - The Orange County Association of Health Underwriters (OCAHU) (www.ocahu.org) and Word & Brown General Agency (Word & Brown) (www.wordandbrown.com), a division of The Word & Brown Companies (wordandbrowncompanies.com), announce the 12th annual One Heart at a Time Golf Classic on May 20 at the renowned Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda,
Calif. This widely popular fund-raising event supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Southern California, whose mission is to find therapies and, ultimately, a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF).
Since inception in 1996, the tournament, presented by OCAHU and spearheaded by Word & Brown, has raised more than $208,000 to support the foundation, which aims to improve the lives of children and young adults with this debilitating disease. In the United States alone, at least 30,000 people battle this genetic, life-threatening disease that affects the lungs and digestive system.
"The effects of cystic fibrosis are devastating," said James Greth, Senior Vice President of Word & Brown General Agency. "Word & Brown is so proud to work with the Orange County Association of Health Underwriters and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to build awareness of this disease and raise money to help fight it."
Gail James, Executive Director of OCAHU, is happy to have Word & Brown's dedicated support.
"It takes a lot of work to deliver a successful tournament and event to the community," she said. "OCAHU is very fortunate to have Jim Greth and Word & Brown's team of volunteers working on this event. It's wonderful to see their dedication and enthusiasm year after year."
As in past years, the 2008 event features a silent auction and dinner, with proceeds benefiting the foundation. The public is invited to register for this fund-raising event; single golfers are $195. Sponsorship packages are also available, ranging from "Tee Sponsor" packages for $200 to "Dinner Sponsor" packages for $3,500. Black Gold Golf Club is at 1 Black Gold Drive in Yorba Linda, Calif.

About the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 people in the United States. A defect in the CFTR gene causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that leads to chronic, life-threatening lung infections and impairs digestion. When the CF Foundation was established in 1955, few children lived to attend elementary school. Today, because of research and care supported by the CF Foundation - with money raised through donations from families, corporations and foundations - the median predicted age of survival for people with CF is in the mid-30s. The Southern California Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, headquartered in Anaheim, Calif., is a donor-supported, nonprofit organization committed to finding therapies and ultimately a cure for CF, and to improving the lives of those with the disease. For more information on CF and the programs of the CF Foundation, call (800) FIGHT CF or visit www.cff.org.
