2013-10-26 23:07:36 - Being in the role of a small home underdog is not something that the Oakland Raiders have had much success with says the sports handivapping website Vegas Experts
When the Oakland Raiders take the field on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team will not be in a good position to win the game, based on research from the sports handicapping website Vegas Experts.
The website looked at how home underdogs of a field goal or less have done, and began the sample range beginning with the 1999 season that allowed for a better perspective with more games.
The main finding of the research was that the Raiders do poorly under these circumstances. This becomes relevant since the team will be 2.5-point home underdogs to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
All but one of the contests within the research have come since the 2003 season, when the team went into a tailspin immediately
after playing in the Super Bowl. The team’s record against the Las Vegas betting line in these situations is just five victories in 18 attempts.
Two of the pointspread wins for Oakland came during the pair of games that were played during the 2011 campaign, but last year, the trend reverted to form. In Week 13, the Cleveland Browns were road favorites of 2.5 points, and narrowly beat the Las Vegas betting line in a 20-17 decision over the Raiders.
One of the 2011 “victories” was actually a loss for Oakland: the team was two-point home underdog to the Detroit Lions, but lost the game by a 28-27 score.
