- Dennis Richmond, who has completed a 40-year career with KTVU Channel 2, and Dr. Mark Walters, who leads the sickle cell disease team at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland, will be just two of the many businesspeople honored at this year's Annual Meeting of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
The 103rd Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon
will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at the Scottish Rite Center, 1547 Lakeside Drive across from Lake Merritt.
Other winners include:
-- Numi Organic Tea (Small Business Award) - Oakland-based Numi tea is a leader in the organic and fair trade tea industry specializing in premium quality teas.
-- Samee Roberts/Steve Huss (Arts Advocates of the Year) - Roberts is the marketing manager in the city's Office of the City Administrator, and Huss is a program analyst in the Cultural Arts Department.
-- Brandywine Realty Trust (Breaking New Ground) - Brandywine, one of the nation's largest full-service real estate firms, is being honored for its leadership in the development community for having the first LEEDS certified green office building in Oakland.
-- Rotary Club of Oakland (Community Service Award) - Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Oakland Rotary is being honored for its many outreach services to local residents.
-- APL Limited (Impact Award) - APL, a leading global container shipping line, celebrates completion of two years of reconstruction at its Oakland marine terminal, doubling cargo-handling capacity without expanding its footprint.
In addition to these awards, the Chamber will present a Friend of Oakland Award and a Leadership Oakland Award, and will recognize a group of Oakland Partnership participants for their leadership.
The Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon will begin with an 11 a.m. reception. The luncheon begins at noon.
