On Monday November 9, Gabriel Senior, Founder and CEO of Travel For Care – a Medical Travel facilitator, was interviewed by students from Maastricht Hotel Management School from the Netherlands. Studying to receive either their Bachelors or Masters Degree in Hotel Management, the students conducted the interview in order to better understand the Medical Travel trend and how Mexico is benefiting. Topics discussed ranged from how Travel For Care established its high quality network, to what Mexico’s competitive advantages are, and lastly how Mexico can improve its less than perfect image as a healthcare destination. Although Mexico has received some negative exposure, Gabriel Senior assures that it will remain a premium Medical Travel destination based on its fulfillment of some very
important criteria.
To start, Mexico is perfectly located for potential patients from the U.S. and Canada interested in Medical Travel. It is no longer necessary to travel halfway across the world to receive high quality and affordable medical care. Now, with Monterrey located just an hour south of Houston by plane, patients have a reachable destination for their healthcare needs. Also, Monterrey’s top-notch healthcare system affords patients the comfort of knowing that their health is in the best hands. Monterrey boasts four Joint Commission International Accredited Hospitals (the most in any Latin American city) with the Gold Seal of Approval and surgeons and medical staff with world class qualifications. However, top-notch healthcare does not have to mean expensive prices. Monterrey offers extremely competitive prices for everything from breast augmentation to orthopedic surgery; even including airfare and hotels, the savings is remarkable.
Another reason why Monterrey is a prime location for Medical Travelers is our abundance of English speakers. As important as it is to offer excellent healthcare at competitive prices, patients traveling from the U.S. need to feel comfortable communicating with their surgeon and hospital staff. Here, all of the surgeons in our network are fluent English speakers and are available to their patients by cell phone at any time before and after surgery. Lastly, patients looking abroad for treatment are not only looking for a place with high quality healthcare, but also a destination which is relaxing and which offers leisure activities to be enjoyed before and after surgery, as well as by their friends or family members who have accompanied them.
This energetic group studying Medical Travel from an academic point of view now have a better impression of how Medical Travel in the western hemisphere is faring, and how a city rarely known by Americans is set to become an important piece in their healthcare puzzle.
