a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6% from the 804 million pounds it reached in 2007.

Polymeric flexible hose and tubing are used in automotive, hydraulics, industrial and consumer/healthcare applications. In a flexible market that witnesses many innovations, development of newer hose and tubing materials is a key factor. Indeed, competition between synthetic elastomers and natural rubber is constant and causes fluctuations in the market value of these materials.

Analysts in the report find that the market is broken down into thermosetting elastomers, non-elastomeric thermoplastic resins, and thermoplastic elastomers. They say that of these segments, non-elastomeric thermoplastic resins have the largest share of the market, using £457 million of materials in 2007. The study also finds that thermosetting elastomers have the second largest market share, using £279 million of materials in 2007. This segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.3% to reach £298 million in 2012.

Finally, thermoplastic elastomers represent the smallest but fastest growing segment. Approximately £68 million of materials were used in 2007 and this is expected to increase to £75 million in 2012, showing a CAGR of 2.0%.
