Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has added a new report which analyses the automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) components and spare parts market in Russia.
The report,'Russian Automotive Components Report 2008', which is available at www.reportbuyer.com/go/SUB00079 includes 200 profiles of Russian producers of automotive components and spare parts, as well as information about 60 companies that sell spare parts.
The study finds that the auto components market in Russia, as well as the automobile industry as a whole, has undergone a different
course of development than the market in Western Europe. Importantly, it points out that it had a long-term role in a planned economy.
Analysts state that large numbers of OEM components were manufactured by the car plants themselves, or by companies which manufacture quite a wide range of products of a certain segment, e.g., electrical or rubber products.
Car plants wanted to produce automobiles without catering to the requirements of spare parts. Indeed, spare car parts were exclusively supplied to in-house aftersale service networks. As a result of this, a whole range of components was in short supply as their production was limited by the capacities of the specialised enterprise.
The study says there were no incentives or environment for the technological development of auto component production. Research and development, and technological development of the manufacturing industry was carried out by initiative, mostly within the resources of automobile plants.
