PARSIPPANY, NJ -- (Marketwire) -- 02/10/10 --

Highlights / Key Facts:

  • DRS Technologies, Inc. announced that U.S. military orders for its infrared Driver's Vision Enhancers (DVEs) have reached $100 million against a June 2009 contract.
  • Contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Communications and Electronics Command (CECOM) at Fort Monmouth, N.J.
  • Contract covers orders from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Special Operations Command for the DVE Family of Systems (FOS).

About the Technology:

  • DRS DVEs use advanced infrared-imaging technology to help operators maneuver in severely degraded visual conditions -- at night, through smoke, fog, sand and other battlefield obscurants. In addition, the units provide advanced situational awareness capabilities helping users detect, avoid and neutralize possible threats.
  • 40,000 units already purchased for deployment on vehicles such as Abrams tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Strykers, MRAPs, Amphibious Assault Vehicles, and HMMWVs.

About the Contract:

  • Among the products ordered by these groups are complete DVE systems for combat and tactical-wheeled vehicles, as well as spare integration kits, sensor modules, displays, and other system components. Deliveries began in November and extend through September 2010.
  • Under the terms of this contract, DRS is offering four versions of this technology within the DVE FOS:
    • DVE Lite for line-haul trucks and tactical vehicles
    • DVE CV for combat vehicles
    • DVE TWV with Electronic Pan and Tilt Module for tactical wheeled vehicles
    • DVE TWV with Forward Activity Detection System (FADS) for detection and surveillance of suspicious activities at unprecedented distances

Executive Quote:

Terry Murphy, president of DRS Technologies' Reconnaissance, Surveillance & Target Acquisition (RSTA) business group:

  • "We're proud to help our troops undertake their missions with confidence while under very challenging circumstances."
  • "It's our goal to continue to drive down the cost of this technology so the DVE is as common on the battlefield as headlights are here at home."
