2014-03-26 19:37:01 - Iron and Blood Menswear Launches on Kickstarter
New York (NY)
Iron and Blood is a new line of men’s accessories inspired by an industrial aesthetic and designed with the goal of making a guy stand out. The look of the line comes from the contrast of two textures: A raw sand casted surface and a machined edge.
Iron and Blood launches on Kickstarter this Wednesday, March 26th 2014. The initial three pieces being offered are the Iron and Blood Ring, Tie Clip and Money Clip.

The company was founded by brothers, Miles and Zen Endo. The textural contrast that characterizes the pieces comes from cast iron combination squares, metal hand planes and machined engine parts. The brothers first made the ring together
and eager to build off the momentum of their collaborative efforts, they continued to design other pieces using the same industrial aesthetic.
Although headquartered in New York, the pieces are being made in Providence, Rhode Island. Providence was one of the first American cities to industrialize and was once the jewelry capital of the world. Iron and Blood honors that history and hopes that their efforts will help contribute to the domestic revival of that industry.
In the development process, the founders experimented with waxes and other traditional jewelry making methods, but in order to accurately preserve the unique texture, the prototypes were made from sand casted iron plates and rods, in authentic industrial tradition. They used heavy machinery designed for cutting and shaping metal, in order to make them. The final pieces are being casted out of silver and white bronze as the original material, iron, is prone to rusting (The ring is made of pure silver and the clips of white bronze). The edges are then sanded, cleaned, and polished. Finally, a natural patina is added at the finishing stage to highlight the textural contrast. The pieces have been prototyped in their final materials and function very well. To go into production, there is a tooling cost to create molds for each ring size and clip model.
The Endo brothers are from Honolulu, Hawaii but now live on the east coast. Zen graduated from NYU and Miles from the Rhode Island School of Design. Miles is an industrial designer and runs a firm called Studio Endo. He loves to cook, skateboard, make furniture and play the drums. Zen is an entrepreneur and loves everything about start-ups. His background is primarily in software and technology but he is passionate about building all kinds of things. His hobbies include videography, music production and building websites.
