Husum, 17.03.2014 The New Energy Husum trade fair is opening its doors to trade visitors and the general public from 20 to 23 March. The tenth annual trade fair is all about grass roots energy transition – at private, municipal and commercial levels. The fair is focused on renewable energy generation and storage, alternative propulsion engineering, and energy-efficient and environmentally friendly building and renovation. The exhibition is rounded off with a comprehensive congress and peripheral programme.

Small wind turbines and solar energy are the strongest exhibitor contingents

Small-scale wind power is the strongest sector represented at New Energy Husum 2014, with over 70 exhibiting enterprises. At the specialist congress World Summit for Small Wind, jointly organised by Messe Husum & Congress

and the World Wind Energy Association is being held for the fifth time on 20 and 21 March, international experts will be coming together to report on political frameworks, markets and innovations in their countries. On the morning of 22 March, the lectures at the Visitors’ Forum in Hall 2 will also focus on the various turbine models available, certification and successfully realised projects in Germany.

In addition to small-scale wind power, solar heating und photovoltaics are also important themes at New Energy Husum. “It clearly shows that an increasing number of visitors want to generate and use heat and power themselves”, says Peter Becker, managing director of Messe Husum & Congress. “The trend is also towards storage technology, with which consumers can use renewable energy flexibly and efficiently.” The Storage Forum is being held as part of the FURGY Congress for the second time on 21 March, providing information about various forms of energy storage technology.

Special exhibition areas for electric vehicles and ecological building

With a test track in the open-air exhibition space, an eShuttle between the visitors car park and the exhibition grounds, and the presentation of the current range of electric vehicles at a special exhibition area in Halls 2 and 3, electrically powered vehicles are a highlight of this year’s fair. “There is hardly another sector where there is so much technical development from year to year”, says exhibition boss Becker. “So we are particularly pleased that we are able to welcome so many renowned and innovative automobile manufacturers, including BMW, VW, Mitsubishi, Renault, Nissan and Mercedes.”

Ecological building is also constantly gaining importance at the fair. In addition to passive houses, this year the enlarged special exhibition area in Hall 1 is also showing promising and energy-efficient building and renovation concepts. At the open Visitors’ Forum at the centre of the special exhibition area, a series of 20 to 30-minute talks will help experienced house builders and tradesmen to find out everything about building and insulating materials, ventilations systems, and their combination with different types of renewable energy.

Colourful supporting programme

In addition to the exhibition and the informative congress programme, New Energy Husum is also offering an attractive peripheral programme of events. At the New Energy Career Days, new young talent can get an overview of the career opportunities in the renewable energy sector. Young people aged between 14 and 22 can use the learning path organised by the JES! youth competition to actively get involved and learn about types of new energy. A particular crowd puller every year is the New Energy Science Slam on 21 March, where creative brains are given ten minutes to give a talk about their ideas relating to energy, electric vehicles of the future of energy supply. During the slam, the eE4mobile cooperative will also be celebrating their fourth anniversary. During the celebrations, the renowned futurologist and trend researcher Lars Thomsen will be giving and insight into the future for electric vehicles. Interested guests are invited to join the members of eE4mobile at this free event.

About New Energy Husum

In recent years, New Energy Husum has established itself as one of the most important trade fairs in the renewable energy sector. Since 2002 it has served as the showcase for decentralised energy generation based on the use of all renewable energies. The topics and techniques include small wind turbines (up to 100 kW), biogas, solid biomass (pellets, firewood and wood chips for heating systems), solar heating, photovoltaics, electric vehicles, subsurface geothermal energy, energy storage, energy efficient building and mini-CHPs. From 20 to 23 March 2014 experts and leading manufacturers will be meeting in the North Frisian town of Husum to set the course for the innovation needed in a rapidly growing market.
