Minimalist homecomputer sounds of popular C64 and Amiga game soundtracks turned into arrangements for 120 musicians of orchestra and choir - a complete symphonic concert dedicated to Chris Huelsbeck ("Giana Sisters", "Turrican", "R-Type"), conducted by Grammy-winning artist Arnold Roth.
The CD presents all songs of the concert performed in August 2008 in Cologne, which was a world-premiere: Minimalist homecomputer sounds of the Commodore C64 and Amiga turned into arrangements for 120 musicians of orchestra and choir - performed in a symphonic concert dedicated to the works of one video game musician exclusively.
The name of this person is Chris Huelsbeck, whose game soundtrack classics like "Giana Sisters", "R-Type" or "Turrican" went through a style change which couldn't be more extreme: A handful of tiny 8-bit samples or synthetic sine waves became violins, contrabasses, flutes, clarinettes, horns, trumpets and grand piano. Envelope controlled noise became drums, timpani, cymbals, triangles ... even pottery mugs.
The songs were rearranged for orchestra and choir
by demoscene legend Jonne Valtonen (ex Purple Motion / Future Crew). They were performed by the musicians of the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne and the FILMharmonic Choir Prague, conducted by Grammy-winning artist Arnold Roth.
