Neste Oil Corporation
Press Release
23 January 2013 at 9:00 a.m. (EET)
Neste Oil ranked the world's fourth most sustainable company on The Global 100
list
Neste Oil has been selected for the seventh time for inclusion in The Global
100 list of the world's most sustainable companies. This year, Neste Oil
achieved its best-ever ranking in the list, reaching fourth place, an
improvement of 15 places on its performance in 2012.
Top place in The Global 100 for 2013 announced in Davos in Switzerland on 23
January went to the Belgian material technology and recycling company, Umicore,
which was followed by Natura Cosmeticos, Statoil, Neste Oil, and Novo Nordisk.
This year's list included companies from six continents and 22 countries. In
addition to Neste Oil, two other Finnish companies were featured in
this year's
Global 100 list: Outotec and Kesko.
"We are very pleased at being ranked among the very best companies worldwide in
terms of sustainability," says Neste Oil's President & CEO, Matti Lievonen.
"We
have steadily worked on developing our sustainability over the years, and in
2012 we significantly increased the amount of waste- and residue-based inputs we
use in refining NExBTL renewable diesel and commissioned Europe's first
microbial oil pilot production plant. We also made a number of major investments
in areas such as safety."
The Global 100 list is based on an expert analysis of around 4,000 listed
companies across a range of industries worldwide. Of these 4,000 companies, the
350 most sustainable are selected by measuring their performance against 12
indicators. Companies are compared in terms of their energy and water
consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, the amount of waste they generate in
relation to the financial benefit they produce, their safety performance,
remuneration, personnel turnover, equality, commitment to R&D, and the taxes
they pay.
According to CEO Toby Heaps of Corporate Knights, which is responsible for
drawing up The Global 100 annually, the world's 100 most sustainable companies
"are leading a resource productivity revolution, transforming waste into
treasure and doing more with less".
Neste Oil has long been a pioneer in producing lower-emission traffic fuels and
is the world's leading supplier of renewable diesel. Being an industry pioneer
in terms of sustainability is also one of Neste Oil's goals.
