The recently opened Boston Breast Diagnostic Center ( www.bostonbdc.com : ) was designed to provide comprehensive breast imaging care using state-of-the-art technology, all in a comfortable, spa-like environment.
Services include digital mammography, high-resolution ultrasound, dedicated breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as well as a full compliment of biopsy techniques using stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI guidance.

After 19 years of providing care for patients at the Faulkner-Sagoff Breast Imaging and Diagnostic Centre, internationally recognized breast imaging expert, Elsie Levin, M.D. will lead the first freestanding imaging center in the greater Boston area dedicated exclusively to breast health. “The mission of our center is to provide a specialized imaging environment focused on compassionate breast health care. We will be offering the most

advanced screening technologies, as well as accurate and timely results for all of our patients and referring physicians” said Levin, the center’s medical director. She added, “We hope to change the patient experience and replace the clinical atmosphere of hospitals and imaging centers with a warm, comfortable, relaxing, spa-like environment. We want to raise the level of care for women seeking breast imaging services throughout the region.”

Unlike most other breast centers in the area, Boston Breast Diagnostic Center offers same day consultation with the radiologist. According to Dr. Levin, “Our patients can get their screenings, and if necessary, a diagnostic ultrasound, MRI or biopsy in the same location and, often on the same day. This helps alleviate the anxiety often associated with breast imaging and awaiting results, which at some centers can take weeks.”


State-of-the-Art Technology Raises the Level of Care

In Massachusetts, breast cancer affected more than 4,800 women last year, and remains one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers in women.

With that in mind, Dr. Levin and her team felt strongly about offering their patients and referring physicians the most advanced technology currently available for the early detection of breast disease.

Boston Breast Diagnostic Center offers the GE digital mammography system, which provides physicians with clear and precise digital images, rather than images on X-ray film. What’s more, the system provides the largest field of view currently available, which is helpful for precision imaging of patients with diverse shapes and sizes. “This is new and powerful technology for the detection and fight against breast cancer,” said Levin. “Digital systems allow us to offer our patients state-of-the-art mammograms that are fast and easy.”

In addition to digital mammography, the center offers the Aurora® Dedicated Breast MRI System, marking only the second center in the greater Boston area to offer this advanced technology.

“I have been performing breast MRI on the Aurora System for over 12 years and have interpreted over 20,000 studies. My personal experience has confirmed the clinical benefits that the Aurora System offers. I have found cancers that were undetected on other imaging modalities and would not consider my new facility ‘state of the art’ without the Aurora”, said Dr. Levin.

Boston Breast Diagnostic Center will be hosting an open house on Saturday, March 20 th from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Educational materials, tours, interaction with the radiologists and staff, and raffle prizes highlight the event.
