2013-10-02 18:26:06 - September 27, 2013 – Hartford, WI – The colorful, bilingual puppet show Dream Carver comes to the Schauer Arts & Activities Center on Sunday, October 27 at 3:00 pm. Based on the book by Diana Cohen, Dream Carver tells the story of Mateo, a young Mexican boy whose father taught him how to carve small wooden toys. One day, he dreams of fantastic, brightly colored animals, and, upon waking, decides to bring them to life. Through songs and storytelling, Dream Carver encourages audiences to think creatively and follow their dreams.

The musical features handcrafted puppets by Swazzle, a puppet studio that has designed and created puppets for clients like The Simpsons and The Pee-Wee Herman Show. Using talented puppeteers trained on Broadway, the show utilizes a multi-layered stage set in order to beautifully recreate the Mexican countryside.
In addition to the performance, there will be a Pre-show Art Workshop from 1:30-2:30 pm.
Students ages 7-10 will create a “real” bird puppet out of felt feathers and other embellishments! Tuition is $10 per student. Call 262-670-0560, ext. 3 to register; advanced RSVP requested.
Tickets to see Dream Carver are $14 for adults, $10 for students (13 and up), $8 for children (12 and under), and $5 for lap seats (3 and under). With the Ruth A. Knoll Theater and Suckow Family Art Gallery, the Schauer Arts & Activities Center is a non-profit regional center for the arts, staging professional touring performances, as well as presentations by the Hartford City Band, Hartford Community Chorus, The Hartford Players, and the Kettle Moraine Fine Arts Guild. The Schauer Center also offers visual and performing arts classes for all ages. Facilities are available to rent for social and business functions.
