2014-03-16 23:52:13 - A brand new concept in digital ownership this spring sees the launch of Maplace.co: an innovative map application designed to allow consumers to purchase a piece of our planet. Primarily pitched as a platform for businesses to gain exposure, the pre- release portions have proved to be popular with individuals wishing to digitally own a plot of land.
Mondaine Migrants Make Media to Rewrite the Map
Two Czech citizens became so disillusioned with menial work in the UK, they decided to make a new map.
In a time when physical property ownership seems increasingly unattainable, Maplace.co encourages users to make their mark on places of significance to them. Registering to use the app is free, with normal rectangular 'plots' commanding a token payment of £1.
Part global Monopoly game, part social media; the app was born out of the dream of self employment, and a less stressful life. However, the ride was not always easy. Co-founder Rose Nekudova said, "We came to the UK to try and start the business and we knew it was going to
be tough. Having to work long hours in a poorly paid job made us miss our families and we were almost ready to return to the Czech Republic. Instead, we managed to use our disenchantment to motivate us to develop something new and special."
From an initial concept of having an interactive map with rectangles of land for sale, Rose Nekudova and her co-founder Vadio Gitazy have been amazed at how the idea has grown. Like monopoly, the more sought after areas; such as landmarks, will be auctioned off and sold to the highest bidder with all proceeds being donated to charity.
Participants can purchase their rectangle anywhere left free in the map. The next step is essentially down to individual creativity. Should people wish to advertise their business, they may use the space as a promotional tool. What makes Maplace.co so unique is that it can also be used as a social networking hangout. Users can connect with others to create a chat.
Maplace.co is the first ever social platform allowing people to own their place on the map. By uploading logos, businesses can get their brand noticed anywhere in the world: the more infamous, the better. Like owning houses on Mayfair, recognised spaces will be more lucrative for participant businesses.
Similar in concept to the popular moon ownership deeds, Maplace.co has already becomes a sought after gift. Buying someone a photo with their name on the Egyptian pyramids, for example, would make for an unforgettable present.
True innovation and perseverance created Maplace.co: a revolution in technology, limited only by the imagination.
