Aberdeen, MS – On Tuesday, March 12th, 2013 Mississippi House of Representatives will hold a special election for House District 36 and Dr. Roderick Van Daniel is a candidate for the vacant seat.
Last month, Governor Phil Bryant called for a special election to fill the House District 36 seat which has been vacant since the passing of State Rep. David Gibbs this past January. House District 36 is comprised of Clay, Lowndes and Monroe Counties and Aberdeen native, Dr. Roderick Van Daniel, 33, is seeking to become the next public servant to serve the district as its state representative.
While coming from humble beginnings, Dr. Roderick Van Daniel was raised with his three siblings by his loving mother, Yvonne Daniel, in
a single parent household. With her support, she instilled in him values and championed her son’s efforts to pursue and achieve his goals while overcoming the odds of becoming another statistic to the issues plaguing many of America’s rural and urban communities. His mother greatly emphasized to him the importance of getting a quality education and positioning himself to take advantage of opportunities when presented.
With a doctorates degree in Rural Community College Leadership and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Mississippi State University, a undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Jackson State University and a host of other achievements and accolades, the former collegiate athlete is currently completing his studies at Birmingham School of Law. Dr. Roderick Van Daniel has a strong desire to be an instrumental voice for the people of House District 36 while working with other elected officials to move the state forward for the betterment of all Mississippians.
Dr. Roderick Van Daniel states, “We must believe that our counties of Monroe, Clay and Lowndes matter for the visions of tomorrow for our children and for the growth of Mississippi's role in America. I believe in our district and the people; being from rural Mississippi does not stop us from dreaming of being successful. I will never give up on our present and future. I believe that our district is great and can be greater. Therefore on March 12th, I am soliciting your support, your vote and the distinguished honor to become your public servant for District 36. It’s time to be more progressive towards change. Together we can make a difference.”
