INGERSOLL, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/09/09 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, and the Honourable Sandra Pupatello, Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Trade, were in Ingersoll, Ontario, today to congratulate General Motors of Canada Limited and CAMI Automotive Inc. (CAMI) on a $90-million investment. The investment adds capacity to CAMI's operations in order to meet the strong demand for the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain.

"As a major partner in the restructuring of the automotive industry over the past year, the Government of Canada is very encouraged by this investment," said Minister Clement. "As a result of the high demand for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, approximately 450 workers have returned to or will start new jobs at the plant. This is great news for CAMI and great news for Ingersoll and Canada."

"Ontario is a world leader in automotive production and assembly, thanks to our highly skilled workforce and culture of innovation," said Minister Pupatello. "We applaud the investment made today by CAMI Automotive, and we congratulate the CAMI and GMCL teams, as they continue to contribute to our province's success."

Increases in consumer demand for these two products will enable retooling of the CAMI facility's West Body Shop, resulting in increased capacity and the recall of employees. CAMI is an independently incorporated joint venture between Suzuki Motor Corporation and General Motors of Canada Limited.

The governments of Canada and Ontario remain committed to a sustainable and viable North American auto sector. This commitment to the auto industry, coupled with the federal government's Economic Action Plan and Ontario's Five-Point Economic Plan, is helping Canadians pull through the recession and positioning Canada to be even stronger and more competitive.
