OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/13/12 -- The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, commended the efforts of RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency officials on a large seizure of illicit drugs Gamma-Butyrolacton (GBL) and hashish, bound for Toronto that originated in the Middle East and Asia.

"These arrests and seizures are welcome news for families and communities across Canada. The production and trafficking of illicit drugs is one of the root causes of violent crime," said Minister Toews. "Our government commends the efforts of the RCMP and the CBSA for its success in taking harmful drugs off our streets and out of our communities.
Our Government will continue to work with domestic and international partners to address the global drug problem and to take action against illicit drugs. We are committed to fighting crime and protecting Canadians so that our communities are safe places for people to live, raise their families and do business."
