OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/14/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated Air Canada and the National Automobile, Aerospace, Transportation and General Workers Union of Canada (CAW-Canada) Local 2002, on reaching a tentative collective agreement.
"I am very pleased that Air Canada and the CAW-Canada worked together to reach a tentative collective agreement," said Minister Raitt. "I look forward to the official ratification of this collective agreement and applaud both parties for maintaining strong labour-management relations during a period of economic fragility."
The CAW-Canada represents a unit of approximately 75 personnel responsible for in-flight service crew scheduling functions, including manning-by-load, reserve awarding, transfers, arranging and monitoring crew movements. Their previous collective agreement expired on May 22, 2011.
The tentative agreement was reached with the assistance of a conciliation officer from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
