OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/13/12 -- Today marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of Royal Military College Saint-Jean.


"It is my utmost pleasure to celebrate the heritage, history, founding fathers and graduates of Royal Military College Saint-Jean and to thank the men and women who have contributed to the success of this vibrant academic institution since its founding, some 60 years ago,"said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "Through its academic, leadership, sports and bilingualism programs, Royal Military College Saint-Jean is particularly instrumental in the development of francophone leaders for the Canadian Forces and for Canada."



As a testament to its excellence, Royal Military College Saint-Jean has contributed to the development of a number of distinguished and accomplished leaders, and its contribution to this effort continues to this day. Over the years, more than 12 000 officer cadets attended Royal Military College Saint-Jean, including some 1325 graduates.


Several activities throughout the year served to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the College's foundation, such as the Freedom of the City ceremonies, the dedication of the C-16 building in memory of Chief Warrant Officer Jean Couture, a Reunion Weekend, the Evening Show and the Gala Leadership 60 which will be held on November 20, 2012.


The mission of Royal Military College Saint-Jean is to integrate, evaluate and develop its officer cadets for successful careers as commissioned officers in the Canadian Forces by means of its academic, leadership, sports and bilingualism programs.
