2013-07-29 21:49:29 - Veterans and active military personel alike are collecting challenge coins and other collectible military coins.
Military collectibles are nothing new, but a recent trend is active duty personel and veterans collecting military coins again. Popular at the end of WWII and in Vietnam, military coins are regaining some of their past glory.
With new minting practices and machines making coins more colorful, better engraved, and much more accurate to their original designs, the new generation of challenge coins and collectible military coins are better than ever. Things like edge printing, simulated weave patterns and additive manufacturing have created coins that are updated to current quality product standards.
"The new coins are far superior to the older ones in many aspects. The colors are brighter, the print quality is much higher and the designs are really spectacular
compaerd to what we have seen in the past." Todd Gilbert of Vision-Strike-Wear.com LLC replied to a request for comment on the new coins by a Skype interview earlier today.
"Reds and Blues were difficult to reproduce well on coins in the past and also tended to fade with age, but that is no longer the case. Our customers are really surprised by the quality they are receiving for the price. Especially since all our coins are printed right here in the USA. Gold, silver, brass, enamel and other composite metals are used in the latest and greatest coins. Navy Challenge Coins are making a come back too. These are coins that sailors collect when they accomplish certain note-worthy tasks or milestones in their carreer."
"It's really a badge of honor for our troops."
Memorial coins have made a big comeback with updated designs reflecting the traditional coins but with the new colors, metals and updated minting technicques. But coins are not just for the Navy anymore. Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and SEALs all have their respective challenge coins and veteran coins that are growing in popularity.
"We offer more than 500 military challenge coins, unit coins and veteran coins now and we are adding more every week. We are proud to be able to provide something that helps build troop morale and help people remember their service. It's very fulfilling for all of us here."
