SEWELL, N.J. – Text messaging while driving creates a crash risk 23 times that of driving while not distracted, and as you’d expect, young people and newer drivers are the most likely to text and drive.

To get across that safety message and others, Miles Auto Service has teamed with the Washington Township Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to present a free safety and car care seminar specifically for new drivers, Oct. 25, 2012, 7 p.m., at Miles Auto, 1007 Tuckahoe Road in Sewell. The event, being held in conjunction with the national “Be Car Care Aware” educational campaign, will cover:

• 7 Most Important Things for Students to be Aware of When

Driving Alone
• 7 Auto Secrets that Will Save You Thousands of Dollars in Repairs

“New drivers know the rules of the road and everything necessary to pass their driving test, but we’ll be teaching them how to deal with real-world scenarios that they might find themselves in, many of which aren’t covered in the driver’s manual,” says Fred White, owner of Miles Auto Service.

The seminar is being held during the Car Care Council’s Fall Car Care Month. A free dinner of pizza, chips and soft drinks will be served. Attendees will also get to participate in challenges for prizes, culminating in a Battle of the Sexes, and will receive gift bags valued at $30.
