2013-10-29 00:17:28 - The Michigan State Spartans face the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday looking to extend a key trend dating back to 2008
The in-state rivalry between the Michigan State Spartans and Michigan Wolverines will be renewed for the 106th time on Saturday, with the sports handicapping website Vegas Experts noting some recent trends in favor of the Spartans, who are favored at home by 4.5 points.
The website found that in each of the last five meetings between the two schools, Michigan State has been the victor when it comes to the sports handicapping side of the ledger. The only outright loss in this group of games by the Spartans came in last year’s 12-10 decision that was won on a last-second field goal by the Wolverines.
In each of the last two visits to East Lansing, Michigan has failed to beat the Las
Vegas betting line. The first contest, in 2009, saw Michigan State come away with a 26-20 victory as a four-point home underdog. Even in the Spartans’ last loss against the pointspread, which came in 2007, the Spartans failed to beat the Las Vegas betting line by only a half-point.
Both teams are coming off victories in their most recent games, with Michigan State easily defeating the Illinois Fighting Illini by a 42-3 score as a 7.5-point favorite. On October 19, Michigan outlasted the Indiana Hoosiers by a 63-47 score, covering the -8.5-point betting line.
The contrast between the two schools is their recent history after a pointspread victory. Since 2010, the Spartans are 19-13-1 versus the Las Vegas betting line, while the Wolverines have struggled with a 12-17-1 mark.
