Venezuela's Basic Industries & Mines (Mibam) Minister Rofolfo Sanz
2008-08-09 16:10:04 - Basic Industries & Mines (Mibam) Minister Rodolfo Sanz has told gold miners from La Paragua that 2-years delayed compensation payments that he had earlier said would be paid two weeks ago are still "in the process" with no definitive date for payments to be received also he did say "later this month!" The miners had heard similar promises made since the middle of May without result.

VHeadline Venezuela News reports:

CVG vice president Alfredo Arcila and Mibam vice president Ivan Hernandez also attended the meeting with miners representatives, giving assurances that the central government is working to restore confidence to vindicate the struggle of the miners.

Sanz was speaking at the Puerto Ordaz headquarters of the state-owned heavy industry conglomerate, the Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) of which

he is also president and CEO. He added "we are planning to industrialize all mineral production in the south (of Bolivar State) and to create a state enterprise to industrial exploit diamond mining ... but people must be conscious of the fact that public institutions must not yield to pressure which would otherwise hamper our work towards satisfactory resolutions."

Venezuela is facing the most difficult period of its history with honest reporters crippled by sectarianism on top of rampant corruption within the administration and beyond, aided and abetted by criminal forces in the US and Spanish governments which cannot accept the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people to decide over their own future.
