2013-10-18 22:36:00 - This Saturday's matchup between the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks and Akron Zips pits two bad teams that haven't scored much during the 2013 college football season
According to the sports handicapping website Vegas Experts, a Mid American Conference (MAC) matchup between the Miami of Ohio Redhawks and the Akron Zips has all the earmarks of a low-scoring contest based on past history.
The website’s research has noted a number of trends that point in the direction of the game going under the current Las Vegas betting total of 44. Akron, which enters the game with a 1-6 record on the season is currently listed as a 7.5-point road favorite over 0-6 Miami.
Vegas Experts looked back as far as the 2003 season, and found that when the Redhawks have been in the position of a home underdog, the game usually finishes below the listed number. Over the past
decade, 16 of the 24 games under such circumstances have won for those bettors who wagered on the under.
The two most recent examples for the Redhawks took place earlier this season: on September 21, the Cincinnati Bearcats won 14-0 over Miami, not coming close to the 55 total for the game. Two weeks later, the Central Michigan Chippewas, another conference rival, won by a 21-9 score, a good distance away from the 48 total on the game.
Both the Redhawks and Zips have made a habit out of keeping scores low over the past few years, with the two teams leading the MAC when it comes to games going under the Las Vegas total. Miami has a 20-7 record in favor of the under during this time frame, while Akron is immediately behind them with a 19-8 mark favoring the under.
