Metro Health Hospital to Celebrate Earth Month With a Variety of Community Events

2014-03-20 21:05:45 - Metro Health Hospital will offer a variety of community events in April to celebrate “Earth Month” and promote sustainability in Wyoming.



In addition to promoting healthy and progressive business practices within Metro Health Village, the hospital also offers programs to enhance and protect the surrounding community.

April events will include:
• A screening of the film “Gasland.” “Gasland” explores the impact of the largest domestic natural gas drilling campaign in U.S. history. Energy companies hope to tap into a reservoir dubbed the "Saudi Arabia of natural gas" using a hydraulic drilling process developed by and promise landowners a quick payoff in exchange for drilling rights. The free screening will be held Wednesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. at the Metro Health Conference Center.
• Electronic recycling and paper shredding. Community members can drop off outdated electric cords and electronics for recycling,

as well as records and papers that will be shredded confidentially and recycled Tuesday, April 22 through April 24 from 12 – 5 p.m. Trailers will be located at the front of the hospital
• Community clean-up day. Get some exercise and fresh air while contributing to your community. Wear old clothes, bring a rake, your work gloves and your family and pitch in to help clean up Metro Health Village on Friday, April 25 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Meet at the Metro Health Professional Building Lobby at 2122 Health Drive. SW.
• Mercury Thermometer and Drug Take Back Day. Area residents may return unused prescriptions to the main lobby of Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming and exchange mercury thermometers for a new digital thermometer on Saturday, April 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
• Rain barrel workshops. The West Michigan Environmental Action Council will provide supplies and teach participants how to make rain barrels in two sessions held on Wednesday, April 30 from 5:30 – 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. Space is very limited. Registration and $30 participation fee are required. Register online at wmeac.org/water/rain-barrel-workshops/.
