VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/05/10 -- Meridian Co., Ltd. (OTCBB: MRDAF), a company engaged in the research development, manufacturing, and sales of advanced medical devices is proud to announce a recent research publication that provides new understanding of Low Level Laser Therapy and its effectiveness in Body Contouring and Spot Fat Reduction using Lapex BCS™Lipolaser System.

This study was conducted through Meridian Medical Inc., a leading medical device company dedicated to developing and delivering unique innovative biomedical devices that harness the use of low level laser therapy. The announcement today is from investigators from the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, demonstrated that Lapex BCS™Lipolaser system based on the company's Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) Technology delivers significant body contouring and aids in spot fat reduction.

The research, published in the April 15 online version of the Journal of Obesity Surgery was posted today on the Journal's website ( www.obesitysurgery.com/ : ).

"There is a significant difference with our approach compared to other attempts at developing other non-invasive technologies for addressing body contour issues and spot fat reduction. We are able to avoid the pitfalls associated with destroying the individual adipocyte cells instead allowing the Low Level Laser Therapy at distinct wavelength to mediate and support the individual phases of cell shrinkage," says Dr. Vinod Podichetty, Chief Scientific Advisor of Meridian Medical Inc. "Results from this study and previous work that we've done show that the cells were not destroyed by laser treatment, but showed consistent pore formation in the membranes of the cells confirming the ability of laser irradiation to release glycerol, free fatty acids to shrink the cells and ultimately maneuver fat loss," Podichetty goes on to say. "The LipoLaser represents a promising and novel non-invasive technology for cosmetic re-contouring of body fat," adds Dr. Frank Greenway, lead investigator on this abstract.
