2013-01-04 09:48:35 - Admissions commenced for the next intake in premium Government medical Universities. Limited Seats offered on a first come-first served basis
In 2004, there were around 79,000 Indian students who wanted to study medicine. Since then there has been a gradual increase in the numbers. Medicine has always been a traditional and a coveted career option since time memorable. In an academic age of reservations, difficult and highly competitive entrance tests where every decimal mark counts, getting a seat in an inexpensive Indian medical college seems as difficult as winning a Gold medal in the Olympics. Compound this with the newly announced NEET which has now replaced the state entrance examinations for the medical education in India. Unlike the state CET’s the NEET follows the CBSE pattern, thus making it more difficult for students who have studies till now as per
the respective state syllabus.
Indian students therefore, have been eyeing foreign countries as a destination for higher medical education. Most, however, restrict their first choice to the US and the UK where the prohibitive education cost proves to be a deterrent. The 21st century Russia has now emerged as a land of opportunity for students eyeing a medical degree. Then what attracts these Indian students to Russia? Lower fees than in the other developed countries, no qualifying exams, no donations and the attraction of a foreign degree make Russia a viable education destination.
Russia has always been a favored destination for higher medical education since along time for students from over 200 countries of the world with more than 7,000 Indian students presently studying their graduate or post graduate medical education down in Russia.
Since the turn of the 20th Century, Russia has produced top-notch specialists in many medical disciplines, a number of whom have won the Nobel Prize. The Russian government on its part plays a vital role in both the educational and the health sector, with a wide spread funding and modernizing of the medical education. The affordability of Russian education is as incontestable as the level of training and professional skills of the graduates of any Russian State University. There is a wide range of opportunity for foreign students who can be taught in English, with the most advanced medical equipment at their disposal. The Nizhny Novgorod State Medical University and the Volgograd State Medical Universities, prominent Russian government Universities is one such example of the Russian government’s initiative in the training of foreign medical students.
These Universities receive a strong financial support from the Government of Russia and are ranked among the best higher state medical Universities in Russia. The very fact that these Universities have been offering international students program for MBBS in English medium since more than a decade, proves its intention to provide foreign students with the most favorable conditions for studies and stay. The Universities meet the highest Russian and international standards and it is therefore not surprising that the graduates work in leading hospitals & health care bodies all around the world – from Asia to America. Even with the high status of the Universities and the latest infrastructure, but with a view of inviting Indian students the Universities maintain a very low education expense for the Indian students who are charged a special tuition fee of only around Rs 1.68 lakhs per year.
International Foundation for Studies and Culture (IFSC) a Mumbai based educational organization, is one of India’s oldest organizations promoting Russian medical education in India since the past 15 years. More than 1,800 Indian students enrolled by IFSC currently study in various education institutions.
Said Mr. Ashish Sonde, Managing Director of International Foundation for Studies and Culture (IFSC) “While we do promote other Russian medical colleges, we also strongly recommend these two Universities. These Universities have very strong international links and infrastructure that can be found only in the best medical Universities in the world.” He further added “The very fact that these Universities have been highly regarded and with the kind of infrastructure they posses, the low and affordable fees makes it an attractive University even for a common Indian family looking for quality education for MBBS at an affordable cost”
“4 years back, when I failed to get an admission to a government medical college in India, I was confused of the situation since I
did not wish to join a private medical college. That is the time I came to know about IFSC and Russia. I wisely decided and enrolled in a government college and now I would soon fulfill my dream of becoming a doctor” said Mr. Suyash Rawat a student at a University in Russia. He added” Before leaving India I had the natural apprehensions about my life in Russia, but I was pleasantly surprised at the prevailing atmosphere in the college, the quality of education that was being imparted and the care and encouragement that I received from my seniors and teachers. “The entry requirements for the Indian students are
determined by the Medical Council of India which is an aggregate 50% mark in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and 40% in case of the reserved category. However, the seats for the English medium course at the University are limited and strictly offered on a first come first served basis. Indian students face competition for the English medium seats from their counterparts who come from other Asian countries like, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Africa etc and hence to ensure that you do get the seat in
this academic year, it is essential to enroll as soon as possible. Secondly with the newly introduced NEET, there is a lot of apprehension and students studying in their 12th standards are coming forward to book as reserve their sea” added Mr. Sonde.
The high level of knowledge of medical personnel is extremely important for any country and all the humanity. Affordability of medical education is the integral feature of advanced developed countries. Medical Institutes like Nizhny Novgorod State Medical University and Volgograd State Medical University invites Indian youth, devoted to the ideas of Hippocrates, to study in the university and obtain not only fundamental knowledge and degree of this prestigious university, but also recognition all over the world.
