Marilyn Monroe the immortal beauty. This portrait was taken by photographer Frank Powolny in 1952 and it was chosen by modern artist Andy Warhol for his sensational art which sold for record amounts and helped to establish Marilyn Monroe as a pop icon as well as a part of American history.
This image certainly also proves, that Marilyn Monroe didn't need fur to be magnificent--to be magic.

Elegance equals Marilyn Monroe. Plus: She was a trend setter and she always was her time ahead--in some cases even for decades.
Marilyn Monroe would do, what nobody of the 1950's until her shocking death in the early 1960's would do. She followed her dreams and her intuition and she worked on herself--always.
She was very active and on the forefront against racism, helping a young Ella Fitzgerald to get some of her first live gigs in Los Angeles, and when Latinos were still a 'different class' for many of the 'High Society,' and party going crowd, it was Monroe would was dating one. Jose Bolanos, a successful Mexican screenwriter who was 27, when Marilyn was 36 and the Latino heart throb was the last love of her life. Marilyn Monroe was talking about adopting a baby--40 years before Angelina Jollie made this a fashion--hip and trendy.
But Marilyn Monroe is still, to this date present in surveys. Amazing. She just made it to be named the 4th 'Most Elegant Woman,' in a long list of 20 contestants. From a real European Princess, to today's Hollywood elite. Pretty amazing for a woman who has been dead for almost 46 years. Actually--Marilyn Monroe is the only dead female
who appears in this 'Who is the most elegant of them all?' survey, which is talking especially about British women. And since Marilyn wasn't a 'Brit,' her 4th place is even more astonishing. Who is missing on this list completely is Madonna. And since Madonna is literally living in the United Kingdom for many years now--the no vote for the Michigan born mega star who is turning 50 this August, is certainly a surprise. www.easier.com/view/Lifestyle/Entertainment/Celebrities/article- ..
What would Marilyn Monroe be today, if she was still alive?
She certainly would have been engaged in her always outspoken, always active way. She would have supported the fight against breast cancer for example, maybe AIDS too. She would have changed her mind on all her furs. While it was a must for any Hollywood starlet of the 1940's to 1960's to wear fur, it became a 'no no' in the active 1980's to 1990 and lately has been accepted by fashion designers and the (Hollywood) rich and famous. While education on this topic is necessary, it is also important to stick with the facts and to not just photo shop images of Marilyn Monroe, and make her 'trade mark' a white fox fur stole, simply disappear. While preparing our own Marilyn Monroe exhibition, we decided to still show Marilyn Monroe's fur, but we will also indicate--right next to the display, that Marilyn Monroe lived in a time, when wearing fur was something special, something fashionable--something 'cool.' We will also donate a percentage of the admission fees to Peta, (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), www.peta.org/about/index.asp and we believe that this is an opportunity to educate a new generation of Marilyn Monroe fans on this topic in particular. Elegance without fur is absolutely possible. Marilyn Monroe was certainly living proof for that fact, too. The less she wore, the more elegant she looked. Which certainly isn't easy to pull off for even the most famous stars--dead or alive.
