Iconic singer, actress and writer, Marianne Faithfull talks to Jennifer Davies on World Radio Switzerland about being a woman in the glare of the public eye and her empathy towards Amy Winehouse.
AUDIO PODCAST:
Marianne Faithfull, winner of Q Magazine's Icon of the Year 2009, is interviewed by independent journalist and broadcaster Jennifer Davies on World Radio Switzerland's The Mix. She talks about her troubled past, overcoming addiction (and Mick Jagger) and what it was like to grow up in the 1960s. She describes the challenges of maintaining a long career in music "women are judged much more harshly" she says, disappointed that media bias against women still seems to exist, expecially in the case of Amy Winehouse, who she met for the first time at the Q Awards in October 09. "It was touching for me to give her a cuddle and say there, there" she says. Faithfull also reviews her
new album, Easy Come Easy Go, and expresses her desire to overcome a bad case of writer's block - and says she'd still love to meet someone special – if only she had more time in her hectic touring schedule.
