2008-08-24 18:54:53 - Riot erupts during gang fight in Manila City Jail, 1 dies, 1 wounded

MANILA,

An inmate was killed while another prisoner was wounded when they were shot during a riot at the Manila City Jail in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on Saturday afternoon.

Slain was Eduardo Mandap, 28, a resident of 753 Interior 55, Raxabago St., Tondo, Manila. He died on arrival at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC) due

to a bullet wound near the nape.

Wounded was Joey Saclao, 44, of 757 E. Mapia St., Tondo, Manila. He was taken to JRRMMC due to a bullet wound in the stomach.

Sketchy reports showed that a riot erupted on the walkway of the Manila City Jail. After the riot ended, two alleged prisoners fell to the floor bloodied.

Security guard Ronald Orocio said four jail guards rushed the two victims to the hospital but Mandap was declared dead on arrival at 4:15 p.m..

Sources at the Manila City Jail said that visiting hours were still going on when a noise suddenly erupted.

Unconfirmed reports said Commando Gang and Bahala na Gang are the one involved behind the riot at 3:20 p.m..

As of press time, it was not established whether the two victims belonged to Commando Gang and Bahala na Gang.

Officials of the Manila City Jail confirmed that there was a riot but refused to give further details.
