2009-11-11 17:06:39 - Nokia is not new to making a dress phone, but it has been lagging behind its Japanese and Korean rivals in the fashion accessory department lately. But with the year ending, Finnish mobile phone leader Nokia caps its 2009 portfolio with a smashing smartphone that is a Nokia standout, both in looks and features.

First shown and officially launched at the recently concluded Nokia World conference in Stuttgart, Germany, the new Nokia X6 heralds Nokia’s into the more upbeat fashion mobile handset with its X-series smartphones.

It doesn’t guite fit in any current Nokia category, looking more like combining the best of its N-series flagship handset with the musical prowess of its XpressMusic phones.

A Multimedia Socialite

Apart from its striking head-turning looks that puts it smack into the fashion handset class, the X6 delivers a stunning multimedia experience that gets a good start with an expansive 3.2 inch wide-VGA capacitive touchscreen where watching movies is a delight to watch on its wide 16:9 aspect ratio.

Its homescreen can accommodate as many as 20 widget icons that allow instant one-touch access to your favourite phone apps and multimedia files as well as online access to your favorite social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. As a messaging phone, you get extensive email client functionality that allows all your accounts to be integrated in just one inbox.

Full internet browsing with Flash Lite 3.0 is standard. All your messaging and online activities become a breeze with its high speed data connectivity using HSDPA/HSUPA on the 3G network. You also get WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR for local high speed wireless data transfers

Video and Camera

Next comes its 5 megapixel autofocus camera using the famous Carl Zeiss lens we’ve come to expect in high end Nokia camera phones. Video recording is supported with video editing tools as well as a TV out jack so you can use an external monitor or TV to showcase your images and videos on a large display. The X6 is a Comes With Music handset that allows you to access unlimited MP3 files at the Nokia Music Store. Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and a 3.5mm headphone jacks gives you a wider choice for use either wireless stereo earphones on a high fidelity headset.

It gets even better with 35 hours of music playback from a single charge – more than enough to keep you entertained on the road during extended trips. In addition, you get 32 GB of internal memory you can use for all your multimedia files without ever using a microSD card.

Getting to your friend’s place will never be a problem with its Assisted GPS receiver with digital compass and Ovi maps to help you with its voiced turn-by-turn navigation. Rounding out its multimedia experience are three high end games like the DJ Mix Tour and Asphalt4 by Gameloft as well as Spore by EA.

Availability

The Nokia X6 is expected to hit the markets in time for the holidays. While pricing is yet to be announced, rumour has it that the handset will come at a SIM-free street price of €460 without taxes and subsidies. Its pricing should put it between the XpressMusic and N97 price range.
