2014-01-27 06:24:41 - Mahendra Rao, Director of Center for Regenerative Medicine at NIH to Keynote Present at the Stem Cell Summit 2014 (Apr 23-25, 2014 in Cambridge, MA)
Mahendra Rao, Director of Center for Regenerative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, will give a keynote presentation on “The Changing Field in Stem Cell Biology” at the Stem Cell Summit 2014 to be held on Apr 23-25, 2014 in Cambridge, MA.
The regenerative Medicine field is evolving and products are being approved by the FDA. Dr. Rao will review the various stem cell populations that are being used and the types of therapy that are being attempted. He will discuss the international coordination efforts that are being initiated and the cell sourcing solutions that are being attempted to reduce costs.
Dr. Mahendra Rao is internationally renowned for his research involving human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and other somatic stem cells.
He has worked in the stem cell field for more than 20 years, with stints in academia, government and regulatory affairs and industry. He spent six years as the vice president of Regenerative Medicine at Life Technologies in Carlsbad, California. He co-founded Q Therapeutics, a neural stem cell company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He also served internationally on advisory boards for companies involved in stem cell processing and therapy; on committees, including as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Cellular Tissue and Gene Therapies Advisory Committee chair; and as the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine and International Society for Stem Cell Research liaison to the International Society for Cellular Therapy.
The Stem Cell Summit 2014 includes two conferences including joint sessions. This summit provides cutting-edge information on developments in all areas of stem cell research including the biology, medicine, applications, regulations, and commercialization of stem cells.
