WINDSOR, ONTARIO - RPR - 04/19/14 - 3 M's Making Manners Matter
Getting people to improve their manners is an uphill battle in a culture like ours where bad behavior and public humiliation have become something of a spectator sport. Are the perpetrators rude, bad mannered, or they just seeking higher ratings? It’s hard to know, but they do capture the headlines.
Meet Joanna Parris, she is ‘The Etiquette Nanny” and her mission is, the ‘3M’s, Making Manners Matter’, to help bridge the gap between generations and cultures in Ontario.
The Etiquette Nanny addresses parents’ concerns about their child’s ability to exhibit good manners, respect and strong social skills. The scientific journal, Child Development, released an analysis of 33 studies which found that,

"Teaching kids social and emotional skills leads to an average 11 percentile-point gain in their academic performance over six months compared to students who didn't receive the same instruction." The study also found that these skills help students form bonds with their teachers and peers.
The etiquette/social skills workshops are designed to provide children and youth with the ability to develop their self esteem, and build better relationships through respectful communication. They will learn to act appropriately in public. While good manners and proper conduct are important, 85% of a child’s future success depends on their social skills - Studies at Harvard University, Stanford Research Institute, and the Carnegie Mellon Foundation, found that 85% of children’s future success depends on social skills.
Engaging Lessons on Good Manners
// // The workshops feature modernized and updated etiquette training, not the overly formal, with the stiff upper-lip training of the past. The etiquette workshops, presented by the etiquette nanny, are fun and interactive, designed to keep children engaged; making learning and practicing good manners and respect entertaining and interesting.
Participants will learn the proper manner of giving and receiving gifts, how to be a friend, the art of setting a table, the ABC’s of dining etiquette, the relevance of online manners, writing thank you notes, the etiquette for using digital devices and the lost art of face to face communication.
The Etiquette Nanny Workshops Help Children Handle Bullying
School bullying statistics in North America show that one in four kids are bullied on a regular basis. So, in addition, the workshops will include segments on dealing with teasing and bullying. Children will also learn how to stay safe when strangers approach them. At graduation there will be a four-course lunch with a certificate of participation.
Joanna Parris is a former model and beauty queen trainer. She is a Certified Etiquette Trainer with a leading international organization and has a mission to instill confidence, self-esteem, and respect in children, teens, and young adults.
