UNICEF ambassador LUCY LIU felt compelled to play a pregnant Chinese girl with AIDS in new movie 3 NEEDLES after learning of the methods hill tribes use to battle the killer disease.
The CHARLIE'S ANGELS star agreed to play JIN PING in the harrowing new film for next to nothing because she felt the world needed to know how the ill-informed indigenous of China and Thailand treat HIV and AIDS.
She says, "I learned a lot about the different voodoos and the different ideas that people had about how they could get rid of HIV.
"They thought there was a cure in having sex with a virgin or with a baby.
"My character, who has the disease, doesn't know what it is and she's pregnant. So when she goes to the doctor she finds out she can't breast feed because that's a way you can give the disease to the baby."
