Liferay, Inc., the industry’s premier web, portal and social collaboration software provider, recently welcomed a new Chief Marketing Officer to its executive team. Paul Hinz joins Liferay, Inc., from Sun Microsystems, where he led strategies for Java EE and the GlassFish portfolio of products and was Sun's strategist for portals and collaboration. In his new role, Mr. Hinz will orchestrate Liferay’s product, marketing and sales activities to help the company further capitalize on its accelerating growth.
“Open source platforms have become significantly important to CxO's and executives making strategic choices at a time when enterprises have continued to demand that software application vendors provide richer capabilities at ever lower cost,” said Mr. Hinz. “Liferay has successfully grown to become the most
significant new platform for modern enterprise web development that satisfies these dual demands. I am proud to be a part of Liferay's strategic growth plans.”
Mr. Hinz joins Liferay in a period of rapid growth for the company, which has seen strong enterprise adoption of its technology in business-critical deployments. In his longstanding relationship with the company management team, Mr. Hinz championed Sun’s relationship with the Liferay community and was a key driver behind Sun’s migration of the GlassFish portal offering to Liferay, a historic decision that validates the richness of Liferay’s technology and its suitability for the enterprise. Today, enterprises are leveraging that technology across multiple application platforms and developer tool sets.
“Liferay Portal Enterprise Edition, with its robust commercial subscription service and enterprise feature set, should be an essential part of any corporation’s strategic decisions around web and application technologies,” said Bryan Cheung, CEO of Liferay, Inc. “As an enterprise web platform, Liferay simplifies web site development and service aggregation for both internal and external web properties. Paul recognizes the broad impact Liferay is making in this market, and I am pleased he will be joining us to lead our accelerating market strategies.”
Liferay Portal has been in development since 2000 and has become one of the most popular web platforms on the market, with 80,000 downloads per month and a rapidly growing eco-system of solution and application partners. The company is currently enjoying success and positive feedback for Liferay Portal Enterprise Edition, the commercial version of its open source offering that caters to enterprises requiring guaranteed service levels of agreement, exclusive additional product features, and a long term upgrade support lifecycle. Additionally, a fast-growing network of technology, services, and OEM relationships testifies to Liferay’s market demand and success.
“Within the last year, Liferay has been downloaded over a million times, partnerships have more than tripled, and revenues are up over 50%,” said Mr. Hinz. “With this momentum, Liferay is well positioned to make tremendous impact on the industry. I am thrilled to be joining such a talented team with such exponential growth.”
Paul Hinz comes to Liferay with over 20 years of engineering and product strategy experience in government, startup and Fortune 500 companies, including Sun Microsystems, Netscape, OSI and the California Dept of Transportation Research Lab.
