Primary biliary cirrhosis is a disorder of the liver that leads to irreversible liver damage. In this disorder, the bile ducts which transport bile out of the liver, become inflamed and damaged. They block the flow of bile out of the liver. As this disease progresses, the liver cannot function normally. Eventually, complications from liver failure may occur. This form
of cirrhosis is more common in women than men.
