2013-10-15 18:21:19 - On Tuesday next (22nd October) at 7p.m. in Shannon Library, Valerie Sweeney will present Clare County Library Service with the boxed set of an eight-hour documentary series “From Foynes to Shannon”, originally aired on Clare FM in 2001 and 2002.
Valerie will also be presenting the original photographs used in her sold-out book, “Shannon Airport - A Unique Story of Survival” to the Library. Many of these photographs have never been seen before.
Helen Walsh, Clare County Librarian stated: “In recognition of the importance of this collection to the people of Shannon and indeed the county itself, the library service intends to make copies of the eight-box documentary series, which has become a collector’s item since its original broadcast, available throughout its branch network of libraries.”
“This is a valuable resource which the library is very pleased to receive”, added Ms. Walsh.
Valerie is also presenting Dúchas na Sionna with 37 original recorded tapes, all her research and photos of the early
crashes at Shannon as well as a variety of photographs for the group’s “Social History of Shannon” project.
Anyone who worked at the airport or has an interest in Shannon Airport is invited to attend next Tuesday’s presentation.
