www.lenovo.com - Lenovo Bob Page, 919-257-6327; rpage@lenovo.com Lenovo today announced that Lenovo PCs provided championship level support for the NBA throughout the 2007-08 season and the Lenovo Stat successfully predicted the Boston Celtics would win the NBA Finals.
"More than 2,850 statistical events were seamlessly gathered and distributed in real time using Lenovo PCs during this season's Finals match-up
between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics," said Michael Gliedman, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, NBA. "This is a fraction of what the Lenovo PC solution has enabled us to achieve this season. Lenovo continues to enhance the game experience for fans, players and coaches through its unwavering commitment to innovation on the court, behind the scenes and in the community."
Lenovo and the NBA continue to use PC technology to enhance the game of basketball on a number of fronts:
The Lenovo Stat
The Lenovo Stat, a plus/minus statistic that demonstrates the most effective combination of teammates, successfully predicted at the start of The Finals that the Boston Celtics would win the 2007-08 Championship. To do this, the Lenovo Stat analyzed all of the five-player combinations on the Celtics and Lakers to see which group had the greatest positive impact on its respective team during the Playoffs. Available on NBA.com and NBA TV after every regular and post-season game, the Lenovo Stat is an innovative tool for coaches, players, scouts and fans, and provides insight into the intangible chemistry between players on the court.
In-Arena PC Solution
The Lenovo PC solution in NBA arenas has collected more than 675,000 statistical events in real-time this season, throughout the season's 1,435 games. More than 275,000 points, 140,000 rebounds and 59,000 assists have been recorded during the 2007-08 season. In addition to the Lenovo Stat, Lenovo PCs play a critical role supporting other behind-the-scenes NBA operations, including powering the Start/Time Clock.
Lenovo in the NBA Community
Lenovo and the NBA have also created new opportunities for challenged communities through business development and social entrepreneurship. Lenovo donated nearly 100 ThinkPad and IdeaPad notebook PCs, totaling $90,000 in technology, to education organizations in the New Orleans community to enable innovative classroom learning experiences. The company is working with NBA players and Legends on special projects to give back to their local communities through the "Hope through Entrepreneurship" program. Lenovo has also joined forces with the Allan Houston Business Education and Development Program to help develop knowledgeable entrepreneurs within communities such as New York, Chicago and New Orleans.
Lenovo is preparing to support PC operations at the Olympic Games in Beijing beginning on August 8, 2008, where the company will cheer on the NBA players representing their home countries.
