Pop princess AVRIL LAVIGNE is set to follow in the footsteps of veteran stars BARBRA STREISAND and BETTE MIDLER by successfully combining singing and film careers.
The 21-year-old I'M WITH YOU hitmaker, whose two new films OVER THE HEDGE and FAST FOOD NATION had screenings at the Cannes Film Festival in France last week (begs15MAY06), is determined to carve out a niche for herself in the film industry.
When asked which career she is focusing on, she says, "Both. I'd love to go further. I think it's important for me to do it the right way and be smart about it and wait for the right parts in the right movies." The singer explains it was a "conscious decision" to "start off small and to warm up".
She reveals, "I wouldn't just want to throw myself into a big part. This was a great first film and then I did Fast Food Nation.
"I just did a scene in another movie, THE FLOCK, just to see how it was. I like it. I'm ready and open to doing more."
