LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/13/12 -- LA Lakers veteran photographer Andrew D. Bernstein captured hundreds of iconic 'sky hook' photos of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from 1983 to 1989, and on Friday, November 16, 2012, a statue of Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, will be unveiled by the Los Angeles Lakers and Staples Center at Star Plaza outside of Staples Center in Los Angeles reflecting Abdul-Jabbar's trademark 'sky hook' move.



Bernstein, who in October 2012 marked his 31st year of photographing the NBA, says of Abdul-Jabbar and the statue, "Kareem is one of the greatest NBA players of all time. It was an incredible experience to visually document moments of his career and his signature hook shot, the 'sky hook,' and I am so thrilled to see this well-deserved statue erected in his honor."





Abdul-Jabbar won six NBA championships, including five with the Lakers, of which Bernstein captured the 1985, 1987 and 1988 championship games.



Bernstein played an instrumental role in the creation of NBA Photos in 1986, which is recognized as the worldwide leader in licensing of NBA photography, and in the creation of the position of Official NBA Photographer, which he held for 30 years. In addition to his role as the LA Lakers team photographer, Bernstein also serves as team photographer for the LA Kings, LA Clippers and LA Dodgers.
