3 killed as passenger vehicle crushed in Philippine landslide

Major Landslide In Mati, Davao Oriental on the Philippine island of Mindanao kills 3 - resubmitted as earlier link not working

A landslide in Oriental Davao has reportedly killed 3 people in a jeepney.

The incident happened at 1.30pm local time 26 Feb at Sitio Mayas, Barangay Tagabakid at the junction of Tarragona-Mati Road which has been completely blocked. Tagabakid is approximately 7 kilometers north-east of Mati.

Richard Villacorte, administrator of Mati City confirmed three persons killed in the landslide.

He added that search and rescue operations were contiunuing after reports that three other vehicles were also involved in the landslide.

The identities of the 3 casualties has been confirmed, they are:

Arturo Sucnaan, 57; Arnel Sucnaan, 35; and Leonara Mabandas, age unknown, all listed

as residents of Tarragona.

There has been a tropical storm in the ara, which has also suffered heavy rains recently, to which this disaster has been attributed,
