Sports Tours International have invited Jennifer Lopez to attend their Intermediate Triathlon Camp at Club La Santa, Lanzarote prior to her first Triathlon in Malibu on September 14th 2008.
As stated on www.monsteradcritics.com recently, Jennifer Lopez has vowed to complete her upcoming triathlon, even if she has to "crawl across the finish line".
JLo gave birth to twins Max and Emme in
February but this hasn't stopped her from training for the gruelling challenge, which involves running, cycling and swimming.
She also says on the website:
"If I have to crawl across that finish line, I am going to. I keep telling myself that when I'm training, this is for charity'. Your kids are going to know about this. Don't embarrass the family! Get it done, Lopez'! But the swimming is a killer, I'm not a natural."
Brendan Fox, Sports Tour International's head of operations says:
'We have had Formula 1 driver Jensen Button training with us in Club La Santa and we hope that JLo will take up our invitation. The sport of triathlon is fast becoming the sport of celebrities with such stars as X Files David Duchovny and Good Morning Vietnam actor Robin Williams taking part. And closer to home TV presenter Craig Doyle and Olympic double gold medal rower, James Cracknell have all been in action recently'.
Jensen Button told John Naish from the Times:
'I go to Lanzarote to train at Club La Santa, which is used by Olympic athletes because it's warm all year round. They do mini-triathlons there, so I got into doing it.'
Training at Club La Santa covers a range of abilities by having different groups on the bike - out and back. The bike rides cover most of the island and the running will be in and around Club La Santa, also using the track for some of the sessions. The swims will be in the 50 meter Olympic pool and in the Laguna situated just next to the complex.
Head coach at Club La Santa Philip Price says:
'JLo mentions that she is not a natural swimmer. If that is the case and she does grace our club with her presence we would put the onus on time in the pool to build her strength up and study her style of swimming'.
More and more sportsmen and women as they come to the twilight of their career are turning to Triathlons to keep their fitness. And it is not just an able bodied sport. Paralympian, Dame Tanni Grey Thompson has also undertaken a triathlon since retiring as a wheelchair athlete. She had to learn to swim in order to accept the challenge and has helped demonstrate that triathlon is an inclusive sport.
