JDG Communications, Inc. has created a Web site for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to help young consumers learn key consumer and business concepts"and protect themselves against fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices. A major contributor to the U.S. economy, children under 12 are reported to spend billions of dollars on goods and services every year. The new Web site

cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT"id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww .. takes kids on an experiential journey through a shopping mall to introduce them to key consumer and business concepts including advertising, branding and competition.
"This entertaining and informative Web site demonstrates how government can use industry best practices to present serious information on an agency"s critical mission," said JDG President Len Johnson whose firm currently ranks 13th on the Washington Business Journal's 2008 list of graphic design companies. "It also showcases our creative talents, and how we can distill esoteric business information to communicate what matters. We have been honored to support the FTC consumer education role on other critical initiatives including the National Do Not Call Registry launch campaign and the cybersecurity Web site cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT"id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww .. he said.
The new FTC site features animated guides who help visitors navigate a virtual mall and interact with shopkeepers and other consumers. Kids can learn the rules of advertising by creating their own ad for a shoe store, become familiar with how supply, demand and production costs impact selling prices of candy and gain an understanding of competition by comparing the sales pitches of three pizza joints. There is also an entertaining short movie playing at the cinema that shows how Teddy Roosevelt became known as the "Trust Buster" and why the FTC was formed to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices.
"FTC.gov/YouAreHere links the important work of the FTC to the lives of children," said FTC Chairman William Kovacic.
With nearly 30 years in business, JDG Communications, Inc., Falls Church, Va., is a full-service branding and marketing firm that specializes in providing highly creative strategic marketing services to government, corporate and nonprofit organizations.
